When a long dormant alien escapes from Area 51, the United States government pulls the reclusive Bigfoot out of hiding and forces him to join ranks with a team of powerful - and bizarre - creatures in order to track it down before its presence is made public.
The Vision
A couple of years ago, I set out to write my own script for a feature-length animated movie. That movie is Lunatic Fringe. The script is written. Now, I'm bringing my cryptid-filled universe to life. The first step is creating a fully realized PROOF-OF-CONCEPT TRAILER.
Think about the trailers you see at the theater before the movie plays... That's what we're doing! The idea is to show the world who these characters are, what they're doing, and why we want to see the rest of the movie.
Lunatic Fringe takes place in the near future of a United States that is teeming with cryptozoological creatures hiding just out of sight. From the mighty redwoods of California to the misty mountains of West Virginia, the world of Lunatic Fringe is majestic, beautiful, dark, and dangerous. Reminiscent of the great animated movies of the past, Lunatic Fringe is a heart-pounding adventure where emotionally complex characters clash as the fate of the world hangs in a delicate balance. Dealing with themes of loss, grief, friendship, and redemption, Lunatic Fringe is a story that speaks to children and adults alike in equal measure.
The Story
We begin within Area 51, the United States government’s most secret and secure weapons testing facility. Deep underground rests secrets known only to few. Something has gone wrong, and something has escaped...
Meanwhile, in the Northern Californian rainforest, the elusive sasquatch RED has avoided detection for decades. When he’s discovered by cryptid expert SALLY, he realizes his troubles have just begun when two MEN IN BLACK tailing her capture them both…
They meet an opportunistic commander, CILLIAN WRIGHT, who proposes Red lead a team of cryptids to find, capture, and return an ALIEN to them in exchange for their freedom. Red reluctantly agrees, and joins the CHUPACABRA, JERSEY DEVIL, and MOTHMAN on a quest to win back their freedom.
